The Harold Wolfe Company, dba Designer Awnings and Canopies – Atlanta, is a family-owned, closely-held corporation, in the business of manufacturing and installing fabric and aluminum awnings, canopies, carports, curtains and under-deck drainage systems to both residential and commercial customers in the Metro Atlanta area and beyond.
The original Harold Wolfe Company was founded by Harold H. Wolfe in New Carlisle, Ohio in 1964. The company specialized in aluminum products, manufacturing and distributing awnings, canopies, carports, screen rooms and mobile home underpinning. The business was very successful and, after several years, also became a distributor for The Coleman Company, of Wichita, Kansas, for their Heating and Air Conditioning Division, supplying equipment to the mobile home industry for the region that covered the western half of Ohio.
In 1978, Larry Oltjenbruns married Gay, Harold’s daughter, in Atlanta, Georgia. Father and son-in-law saw an opportunity to expand the Harold Wolfe Company into the Atlanta area. In 1980, Larry began selling Harold Wolfe Company products locally. This venture became so successful that, in 1983, a separate corporation was formed. Larry was the President and majority shareholder, with Harold an inactive officer, holding a minority interest. Gay left her management position with The Mead Corp., and took charge of customer service and all financial responsibilities, while Larry’s son, Mark, came on as an installer.
In 1987, Mr. Wolfe bought property in Smyrna, GA, and built a 16,000 square foot building to house the company’s offices, manufacturing equipment and inventory. All of the company’s products are manufactured there.
In 1990, Mr. Wolfe retired and he passed away in 2016. In 2013, Larry died in an unfortunate accident. But the Harold Wolfe Company has continued to thrive under the management of Mark and Gay.
